Saturday Racing Multi: Balding can fire us a winning 16/1 Wolverhampton double

Can Alan find the winner of Saturday's feature races?

Doyen Du Bar's win on Saturday means Alan Dudman's multiples' column remains over 245 points in profit since it launched in 2021 and he previews this weekend at Wolverhampton...

Wolverhampton - 14:42: Back Regal Ulixes @ 9/25.50

Last week's multiple column only managed the one out of three with Doyen Du Bar with an utter barstormer of a win to maintain the profit in recent year's to over 200 points singles and 47 points to multiples.

Saturday is all Flat for me with Wolverhampton's Lincoln Trial Handicap at 14:42 the focus for the multiple, and Regal Ulixes has a shocker of a draw to overcome in 12, but I still want to keep him onside.

He was second favourite at 9/25.50 when the prices were chalked up on the Sportsbook early on Thursday, so whether he slides (and I suspect he will), it's one to monitor, but the 9/25.50 is pretty fair judged on what was a fine run and victory last time.

A triumph in the Middle Distance Trial at Lingfield last time over 1m2f saw him mow down a 100-rated second.

His turn of foot was impressive off a steady pace, and his final three furlongs were quick, so I don't worry about him dropping back down to 1m for Saturday and a track like Wolverhampton, which is sharp by nature, will suit him.

Sire Ulysses has a good record with his runners on the All-Weather and all distances at Wolves he holds a 33% strike-rate placed from over 150 runners, and from 1m to 1m2f the numbers increase to placed at 40%.

Andrew Balding is in red-hot form too, as of Thursday he was 35% in the last fortnight, and Regal Ulixes is completely unexposed on AW and turf.

Wolverhampton - 15:15: Back Cool Hoof Luke @ 2/13.00

We're all in with the Baldingmeister this weekend, and the Listed Lady Wulfruna Stakes over 7f can go to the trainer's Cool Hoof Luke.

He's better than this grade as a Group 2 winner at York, or should be anyway as a Gimcrack victor as a juvenile. Sadly he wasn't seen at all last season but he must have pleased all involved on his comeback run last time in the Kachy Stakes over 6f at Lingfield.

That was an interesting tactical race as Diligent Harry dead-heated with Completely Random. The former attempted to nick the race from the front and the latter came from a long way back - sandwiched in between was the returning Cool Hoof Luke, and while he flattened out a little late on, he travelled ever so well before the turn.

Remember, he beat Symbol Of Light and Big Mojo (subsequent Group 1 winner) in the Gimcrack, and if the ability is there, and on the Lingfield comeback, you would say it is, he should be a little shorter than 2/13.00.

The trainer has won this race three times too - including back to back successes for Border Music in 2005 and 2006.
