Derfenna Art (14:50) can follow up on his Chepstow win in the handicap over a mile at Newbury. Seamus Durack's three-year-old has posted better efforts since the tongue tie has been fitted, finishing third at Windsor before that cosy success at the Welsh track 10 days ago. He isn't bred to get further than a mile, today's trip his optimum, and the handicapper hasn't got a hold of him yet; a 6lb penalty very fair. Derfenna Art is a big, rangy sort and surely has more to offer.

The beautifully-bred Cantal (15:50) will take all the beating in the seven-furlong fillies' handicap at Yarmouth. Cantal landed a maiden at Lingfield in October and then returned this term in handicap company over a mile at Goodwood last month. John Gosden's filly pulled too hard in the early stages there, and then had to wait for a gap whilst the well positioned winner got first run. Having still looked the likeliest winner a furlong out her effort flattened and she ended up third. For the time being the drop in trip will benefit Cantal and she is open to plenty of improvement.

Back at Newbury, More Than Words (16:30) is very interesting on handicap debut in the seven-furlong three-year-old event. There is a lot of speed on the dam's side of her pedigree but she was disappointing when dropping back down to five furlongs at Leicester last time. However, More Than Words may be better judged on an eye-catching effort in a seven-furlong maiden at Newmarket the time before, where having travelled smoothly throughout, she was short of room and not persevered with once her chance had gone. Richard Hannon's three-year-old looks likely to be better served by a return to that trip and is off a realistic BHA mark of 73.
