Today's SmartPlays come from this afternoon's meetings at Perth and Goodwood
Man of Plenty can get things off to a decent start in the 14:35 handicap at Goodwood. John Dunlop's gelding was a rare winner for the yard during a cold spell earlier in the season, and has made the frame in his two subsequent starts, finishing fourth over one-and-a-half miles at today's track when last seen in June. Freshened up since, he returns with the stable in much better nick and, as a result, he may be capable of better. He looks a decent price at morning odds and is worth a play.
Next up is Ektihaam in the listed event at 15:40. The son of Invincible Spirit won twice as a two-year-old, and has gone on improving this year, winning a minor event at Newbury (by five lengths from Wrotham Heath) in April before finishing a close second to Bonfire in the Dante Stakes at York next time, pulling clear of the rest. His latest effort when down field in the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly when last seen in June is best excused (met with plenty of trouble in a rough race) and he ought to take plenty of beating returning from a break.
Finally, Blazin White Face is taken to prove her stamina for three miles and continue her upward profile over fences in the 16:30 at Perth. Raced exclusively over two miles and five furlongs at the track in three chase starts this summer, Lucinda Russell's mare has done little wrong, winning twice including on her latest start in July. The extra test of stamina shouldn't be a problem, and she looks the pick of her trainer's entrants in this race at the morning prices.
