Timeform UK SmartPlays: Wednesday October 30

The pair to concentrate on in the nursery at 18:40 looks to be Never To Be and Dutch Interior, with both horses being Timeform Horses In Focus and retaining the 'p' on their ratings. Dutch Interior will go on improving but the one we most want on side is the John Gosden-trained Never To Be, who took a Lingfield maiden on his second outing and posted a big career-best when scoring over C&D a week ago. The form of that nursery looks strong for the grade and, though Never To Be is hit with a penalty here, there is nothing to say that he won't continue his progression and early prices of 3.412/5 make plenty of appeal.

Just six go to post for the 19:10 but it is possible to make a case for each of them, particularly Singersongwriter and Jazz Master. The one that catches our eye however is Noble Protector, trained by Stuart Kittow, who confirmed the promise of his debut to get off the mark in a one mile maiden here in July, form that has worked out fairly well since. The suspicion is that he was unsuited by the softer ground on handicap debut at Sandown last month, and he is well worth a chance to get back on track now returned to the all-weather. 

Last time out winner Diplomatic has been handed a potentially difficult draw so it's worth taking a chance on the Pam Sly-trained Syncopate, who shaped better than the bare result on his return to action over C&D recently and is certainly one to be interested in. The four-year-old has looks to be on a workable mark and he would have gone close last time but for meeting trouble on several occasions, and he could just make amends here.
