Timeform UK SmartPlays: Wednesday October 17
Our opening SmartPlays comes from Nottingham

"Zero Game's breeding suggests this trip won't be an issue and early market vibes would back up the theory that she'll be ready to show more of what she's about."

We're mixing Flat and jumps today, with SmartPlays from Nottingham, Wetherby and Lingfield...

We're starting fairly early, with a selection in Nottingham's second race at 14:10. It's a nursery over an extended mile with a number of tops yards saddling runners, but it looks to us as though Michael Bell's filly Zero Game has been let in especially lightly for her debut in these events. Her career so far has been chiefly about gaining experience, not subjected to an overly hard time in any of her three outings in maidens and green all the while. Zero Game's breeding suggests this trip won't be an issue and early market vibes would back up the theory that she'll be ready to show more of what she's about.

A trip to Wetherby follows for their two-mile handicap hurdle, scheduled for 15:25. Simply Ned and Tinseltown are vying for favouritism at the time of writing, but there's no doubt in our minds that the latter is the more solid option. He's had a good deal more racing than Simply Ned, but he proved a reformed character over the summer, winning twice over C&D under similar conditions to today, while his form on the Flat since has been better than he's ever managed in that sphere. He comes with fitness assured, and that could well prove crucial with ground expected to be on the soft side at Wetherby come race time.

We go down to Lingfield for our final selection, which runs in the Class 2 handicap at 16:05. As with the first race at this track, there are plenty of big yards represented, but few would have firepower to match Mahmood Al Zarooni and his Representation looks like a good bet at current odds. He's run only twice so far, his runs a year apart, but that's no rarity with Godolphin horses and there was plenty to like about his comfortable victory in a good maiden for the track at Wolverhampton last time. His breeding would suggest that this longer trip will suit if anything and, with him being so unexposed, it wouldn't be any surprise at all were Representation to defy a BHA mark of 87 at the first time of asking.
