We look to the all-weather meetings at Lingfield and Kempton for today's SmartPlays.
It's fair to say that Aegaeus(15:00 Lingfield) has yet to show form vaguely remeniscent of his multi-group 1 winning dam Ouija Board, but he nevertheless continued his gradual progression when third in a course and distance handicap earlier this month, finishing with a flourish that day and while the tongue strap used on that occasion is now left off, compensation awaits in an event with less depth than then, the current rude health of his yard a further bonus.
Rangi (17:00 Kempton) cost 125,000 guineas as a yearling and while he has yet to offer a return on that investment after a pair of fifth placings in turf maidens during the summer, failing to justify strong support in the latter of those at Sandown, he still looks the leading player in this field, with a matching of the form shown on both that and his previous run at Newmarket likely to be sufficient to get off the mark here.
The highlight of the Kempton card is a listed event over a mile and while it looks an open event at first glance, the recent return to form of Belgian Bill (18:30 Kempton) gives him leading claims of landing a hat-trick. A dual course winner over recent weeks, the step up from seven furlongs should hold no fears having won at this trip last year and while his recent winning margins have been narrow, the manner of them suggests he's at the top of his game right now.
