Timeform's SmartPlays on Wednesday come in the last three races at Nottingham.

The bare form of Etaab's maiden win last time isn't all that, though with her type- well-bred, well-connected- it's not always about bare form at this stage and she looks a good bet on her handicap debut today (16:20). Etaab had a good bit to spare when running out a winner by over two lengths at Lingfield last time, making just about every yard of the seven-furlong journey under Paul Hanagan. That she was able to show such speed over a sharp seven is encouraging, as Ebaat is very much bred for a mile and perhaps even a bit further: her useful dam Ethaara has already produced a similarly useful miler in Estiqaama and sire Street Cry will surely impart the requisite stamina for a mile. If Etaab proves up to her pedigree a BHA mark of 80 will be no problem for her, while the current form of the Haggas yard isn't going to hold her back today, to say the least.

The following race (16:50) for stayers doesn't look particularly strong, so it's somewhat surprising that penalty-carrier Blue Talisman isn't a shorter price to follow up last week's Redcar success. That run produced marked improvement and a convincing winning margin, one that suggests a 6-lb penalty won't keep him from going very close again. Now he seems settled over staying trips, yet remains unexposed over them, it could even be that Blue Talisman will improve again. If he does, he will be extremely tough to beat in this sort of field under conditions so similar to those that drew his Redcar performance from him.

There has admittedly been an opportunistic element to both of Camelopardalis' recent wins, though in today's 17:20 she looks to have been found another good opening as she goes for a hat-trick. The BHA handicapper has helped, raising Camelopardalis an entirely fair 3 lb for winning a weak event at Yarmouth last time, when an enterprising ride from Danny Brock also contributed. That race was over 14 furlongs and she drops half a mile today, though relative speed was the decisive factor in Camelopardalis' most recent success and it looks as though the drop in trip has been overplayed in the market. Her credentials stack up just as well as chief rival in the betting Rockweiller and it at the time of writing it looks as though the betting public are just starting to cotton on.
