There's quality action Flat and jumps action up and down the country today and Timeform's SmartPlays team bring you their three best bets...
Having been immature as a juvenile, Sangar progressed through the handicap ranks somewhat as a three-year-old last year, landing ten-furlong events at Doncaster and Ripon, and the gutsy filly can strike early this time round in the 15:55 at Beverley this afternoon. Sangar's trainer Ollie Pears recently gave the Timeform Betfair Racing Club a Stable Tour and was confident that the four-year-old was very forward this year, stating that he'd be disappointed if she wasn't up to picking up a couple in the coming months and, although she has only 1lb in hand of her nearest rival (Cabal), her first victory of the campaign could come today provided the course is subject to no further rainfall.
It's not often that a horse achieves an initial Timeform Rating of 101p having only won a nine-runner maiden but such was the manner of Jungle Beat's victory over seven furlongs at Newbury in July, he's looks well worth that figure and should take all the beating in today's Feilden Stakes at Newmarket. Not only did Jungle Beat dominate subsequent dual winner and Royal Lodge fifth Farhaan that day, he also had Rugged Cross, who'd go on to win a valuable maiden at York (Middle Park winner Crusade eight), in fifth, so the form looks solid. From the highly respected John Gosden stable, Jungle Beat is sure to have improved over the winter, will have no problem staying today's trip of nine furlongs, and could have too many guns for chief danger Perennial, a half-brother to Redwood, who won today's race in 2009 for the Hills yard.
Perennial is one of five runners this afternoon who feature in the Timeform Horses To Follow publication for the 2012 season but heading the quintet from a punting point of view is Andrew Balding's Top Cop (17:55) who goes in the closing six-furlong handicap at Newmarket. While he may have a bit to find on the weight-adjusted figures with a number of his rivals, Top Cop is the only runner in the field who still looks open to improvement and with a physique (big, strong) to suggest he'll improve with time, it will be disappointing if he can't uphold his family's good name (half-brother to the useful Desert Law, dam five-furlong winner out of the smart Blue Siren) this season.
