Today's SmartPlays action comes from the afternoon meeting at Sedgefield...
Schinken Otto is a multiple scorer at the track and can add a sixth victory to his CV in the 15:50 handicap chase. A C&D winner in August, Malcolm Jefferson's gelding is a much better chaser than hurdler and will appreciate the return to fences today having raced over timber last time. Though he can struggle for consistency, he nevertheless remains capable of going close from the front and could take some pegging back if putting his best foot forward. At morning prices he looks worth a play.
Next up is Goldan Jess, who should prove tough to beat in the 16:20 handicap hurdle. Philip Kirby's gelding followed up a two-mile all-weather victory on the Flat when winning from out of the weights over 19 furlongs at Market Rasen on Saturday, keeping on well to score by 10 lengths. Effectively only 3 lbs higher today, he is very much worth keeping on side as he bids to land the hat-trick and ought to go close.
Finally, Ruttan Lake is taken to reverse placings with market rival and Bangor conqueror Hit The Switch and land the 16:50 novices' handicap hurdle. The Winged Love geldling has done little wrong since joining Tim Vaughan- indeed, the reverse to Hit The Switch was his first defeat in three starts for the South Wales handler. Reopposing on revised terms he is fancied to regain the winning thread this afternoon and rates a solid win bet at morning odds.
