All three selections run in novice handicap chases between Huntingdon and Sedgefield, the first being in the 13:10 at the first-named venue. It's not the strongest race of its kind, which is much of the reason why long-standing maiden chaser Suburban Bay is fancied to get off the mark. It would be wrong to say he's been blameless all along, but Suburban Bay hasn't been at fault when runner-up on each of his last two starts, especially at Kempton last time. There he was second to Firm Order, who'd been ridden much more patiently off a strong pace and whose superiority was sealed when Suburban Bay made something of a mistake two out. Off the same mark here, Suburban Bay is handicapped to go close in a lesser race.

We're also hoping that experience can be put to good use in the 14:20 at Sedgefield. There Atlanta Falcon, a veteran of six chases, lines up against five rivals that have three starts over fences between them. Atlanta Falcon has evidently learned the trade, too: he has won twice and been second on three other occasions up to now, running really well when second at Kelso last time when he arguably paid for being sent on a long way out. Now fitter for that run and going off the same mark, Atlanta Falcon represents a solid bet at north of 4.03/1.

Back at Huntingdon, there's a select field of four entered for the 14:40. This time, we're taking one with no experience over fences, namely the mare Tempest River. Her record over hurdles is a fairly solid one under suitable conditions. The new experience of fences aside, this is perfectly suitable on that score as Tempest River has run well over trips around two miles on numerous occasions in the past. Teaming up with top rider Wayne Hutchinson and running off a mark she's shown she can be competitive from in even better races over hurdles, Tempest River has few excuses today if she's going to make into as good a chaser.
