Our first bet on Tuesday runs in the opening five-furlong handicap at Leicester (14:30) as we side with the Robert Cowell-trained Cardinal. Cardinal finished last season out of sorts, but he produced a creditable effort on his seasonal return at Nottingham, finishing runner-up to a subsequent winner in the shape of Taurus Twins, and it is significant that he is now below his last winning mark of 69. With the Robert Cowell yard still in good form, Cardinal holds obvious claims and can regain the winning trend. 

We don't have to wait long for our next bet as Marmalady looks certain to give a good account in Lingfield's five-furlong handicap (14:40) and should be backed to bounce back to winning ways having shaped better than the bare result in a competitive Ascot handicap last time. Marmalady finished last season in cracking form, rattling up a hat-trick, and she returned looking as good as ever, her third at Windsor, despite being easy to back, boding well for her future prospects. Marmalady caught the eye with how she travelled over six furlongs at Ascot last time, holding every chance when her rider dropped his whip inside the final furlong - though, as it turned out, it is unlikely she would have challenged smooth winner Intrinsic - and she was spared a hard time in the closing stages. Dropping back to five furlongs won't pose any problems for Gary Moore's filly and she has an excellent chance here. 

Avon Breeze was fitter for her comeback effort when finishing runner-up over C&D last time, and she looks set to go one better this afternoon (16:20 Redcar). Avon Breeze did well to finish so close under the circumstances, racing closer than ideal to a strong pace, leaving herself vulnerable late on, but she kept on in good fashion and was only headed late on. She still has relatively low mileage for a sprinter, has shaped well from higher marks in the past and is likely to give her running; she looks like decent betting material.
