Timeform UK SmartPlays: Tuesday June 24

We kick off proceedings with a six-furlong handicap (13:30) from Brighton and Avonmore Star is on a roll all of a sudden and looks more than capable of completing a quick-fire hat-trick. He ended a long losing run at Nottingham earlier this month and followed up over today's C&D under Oisin Murphy last week. He's been raised 5 lb but the jockey takes off a valuable 3lb and the selection has left no reason to suggest he won't turn up in the same form again for this contest; if that's the case he looks sure to run well, although Song of Rowland is feared on his first start for John Spearing.  

It's a five-furlong handicap from Brighton (14:30) under consideration next and Secret Millionaire looks the one to keep on side. He returned to form when landing a pair of handicaps on the all-weather in March and has built on that in the turf season thus far, placing on the last two starts including over C&D at the end of April. He looks potentially well-treated off a mark of 72 and this looks as good a chance as he will get to notch up another career victory, and he's taken to do so at the expense of Clear Praise who is looking to bounce back from a disappointing display last time.

We head north to Beverley for our final bet of the day, which comes in a handicap over an extended seven furlongs (16:15) and Mercers Row looks to have found an excellent chance for compensation after he was narrowly denied at Carlisle last week. He's drawn twelve which obviously isn't ideal but he lines up today off the same mark of 68 from which he came so close to winning six days ago. If he's none the worse for those exertions and turns up in the same mood then he's hard to ignore, although recent Thirsk winner Space War may ensure he has to battle once again even though he's under a penalty.
