We're off to Salisbury and Lingfield for today's SmartPlays...
Tight Fit (16:05) made a favourable impression when narrowly going down at Lingfield on handicap debut in April, where she was forced to race wide, and she ran to a similar level when a creditable fourth behind Ed Dunlop's progressive filly Auction at Newmarket last time, again shaping better than the bare result. Henry Candy is an old hand at finding suitable assignments for his horses and, with the drop back to 7 furlongs likely to suit and aided by a jockey in superb form lately, Tight Fit is taken to get us off to a winning start.
We remain at Salisbury for our second selection, siding with the Andrew Balding-trained Gold Mine in the 17:05. Gold Mine has been very lightly raced for a five-year old to date and whilst that is a slight concern, today's race is distinctly lacking in any strength in depth. A creditable second on his latest start behind a well-handicapped sort, Gold Mine has scored over today's trip in the past and his trainer looks to have found him an ideal opportunity to get back to winning ways.
We head over to Lingfield for our final SmartPlay selection in which we side with the Jeremy Gask trained Flying Bear (18:00), who is expected to better his very encouraging debut at Kempton late last month. Flying Bear finished a close-up third that day, finding only a couple with previous experience too strong, and whilst he was a relatively unfancied 20/1 chance that day he is certainly entitled to progress With his main market rival here having had a few chances to open her account already, we will take a chance that Flying Bear can take the requisite step forward and sign us off with a winner.
