Las Verglas Star (14:00) can get the SmartPlays team off to a winning start in the opening event of Glorious Goodwood 2012. Richard Fahey's four-year-old was back to his very best when a strong-finishing second to Azheemah at Ascot last time, having encountered trouble in running. That was a step up on his previous efforts and, had he not been denied a run two furlongs out, he might well have finished in front. He was fourth over C&D at this meeting last year, and has a handy draw in stall three.

Chachamaidee has the form to land the Lennox Stakes at 15:10. She won the Oak Tree Stakes over C&D last year and made a successful return in a Group 3 at Lingfield in May, but then was unlucky not to follow up in the Group 2 Windsor Forest Stakes at Royal Ascot last time. Sir Henry Cecil's mare fluffed the start, but recovered sufficiently to thrown down a challenge late on, only to be edged out close home. She sometimes misses the break and is unraced on ground softer than good (perhaps worth considering should the rain fall this morning), however she is in great form at present and can gain compensation against the boys here.

Morawij is progressing nicely at present and can land a weak-looking renewal of the Molecomb Stakes (15:45). A well-supported winner of his maiden at Haydock on debut, he went on to chase home subsequent Prix Robert Papin winner Reckless Abandon in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot. He improved again to land a listed event at Sandown last time and that puts him in the drivers' seat for this, particularly as his biggest dangers here, Lyric Ace and Hototo, must overcome substandard last-time-out showings. Morawij has the profile of an exciting and progressive two-year-old and is likely to have more to come given his trainers' excellent reputation with this type.
