"Given that Shamaheart has run well enough over slightly higher marks the last twice, he gets the vote..."

Timeform head north to bring you their three best bets from Musselburgh and Carlisle on Tuesday...

We kick off proceedings with a five-furlong handicap from Musselburgh (15:00) and if Opt Out takes his chance after his decent second at Ayr on Monday he will have an excellent chance. However with the assumption he doesn't go to post here the one to keep on side is Windforpower. He's not the most straightforward of types but signed off his 2013 campaign with two victories, albeit narrow ones,  and has continued to hold his form so far this year. He's struggled with consistency in the past but in a race littered with ifs and buts, providing he continues in his current run of form he has the potential to be competitive off his current mark and can take advantage in an otherwise middling contest.

We remain north of the border for the second contest under consideration for another handicap, this time over seven furlongs (17:00) and given that Shamaheart has run well enough over slightly higher marks the last twice, he gets the vote. It must be noted that he doesn't always find a huge amount when push comes to shove but the aforementioned runs in handicaps over a mile at Ripon indicate that he's in better form of late than it might initially suggest. Add to that mix that this particular contest won't take a great deal of winning, and conditions could be at an optimum for a return to the winner's enclosure for Geoffrey Harker's occasionally recalcitrant four-year-old.

Our final bet of the day comes in a handicap over a mile from Carlisle (20:10) where Toto Skyllachy might just surprise a few. He hasn't won since August of last year (although it was at this track) but he shaped as if a return to form was imminent when a fast-closing fourth over today's C&D at the beginning of the month. He's also dropped to a very workable mark and if he's able to build on the promise he hinted at last time, it would be no surprise to see him outrun his price. Naoise also merits respect if picking up where he left off for new handler Ollie Pears, but the selection might be too strong if he's firing on all cylinders.
