Pilates, an expensively-purchased daughter of Shamardal, is a half-sister to three winners and, though she has yet to register victory herself, she looks to hold exceptional claims on her handicap debut in the 18:05 at Nottingham. Her most recent effort, when finishing runner-up over six furlongs at Hamilton, was a display full of promise as she raced too close to a strong pace but was still only just denied, narrowly headed in the closing stages. She starts life in handicaps from a fair-looking mark of 60 and it would be a surprise were this well-related filly incapable of making an impact at this level.

Having performed with credit in some strong maidens, the well-bred Fledged took advantage of a good opportunity when getting off the mark over one and a half miles at Lingfield last time and he can make a successful start in handicaps in the 18:35. That Lingfield success represented a career-best effort for the lightly raced Fledged, who impressed with the way he kept on in the closing stages, looking more straightforward than his rival, and, having had just the four starts, there is clearly a good chance that there is more to come. The step up to 14 furlongs looks unlikely to pose too many problems and he can make a successful start in this sphere.

Our third and final SmartPlay runs in the following race as we side with Dutch Masterpiece in the 19:05, hoping that Gary Moore's in-form three-year-old can complete the hat-trick. Dutch Masterpiece has always been held in high regard, often being sent off as a short-priced favourite, and he has hit form with a vengeance of late, running out an impressive winner at Chester before stepping up on that when easing to success at Newmarket, looking ready for a step up in grade. He faces some rivals with form at a higher level, but, crucially, few of them are in the same heart as Dutch Masterpiece at present and he can continue on his upward curve.
