Timeform UK SmartPlays: Tuesday April 23
Two of today's bets run at Wolverhampton.

"Lieutenant Dan somewhat belatedly shed his maiden tag over C&D in January but he has done well since, hitting the mark again at Lingfield but actually improving slightly on his most recent outing..."

Timeform put forward bets at both Wolverhampton and Yarmouth in Tuesday's SmartPlays column...

The 15:20 at Wolverhampton is an intriguing contest with both Hi Candy and world Map likely to prove capable of better than they have shown to date and Nine Iron sure to appreciate this step up in trip, but the one we want on side is the Charlie Hills-trained No Truth. The three-year-old is a well bred filly, being closely related to several winners and out of the Lancashire Oaks-winning dam State Crystal, and having hinted at ability in a couple of Newmarket maidens, despite breaking from the stalls slowly, she took a marked step forward when scoring over C&D earlier this month. An opening mark of 64 looks fair enough, particularly when bearing in mind she remains open to further improvement, and with her yard having made a good start to the season she seems sure to go close.

Both Lord Of The Dance and The Guru Of Gloom go into Wolverhampton's 17:05 in good heart, whilst Sound Amigo would be a danger to all if a change of surface sparks a return to form, but the one we have plumped for is Lieutenant Dan, who has also been in decent form of late. The six-year-old somewhat belatedly shed his maiden tag over C&D in January but he has done well since, hitting the mark again at Lingfield but actually improving slightly on his most recent outing when chasing home Al Khan at Southwell. If he manages to repeat that form here he could prove difficult to beat off a mark of 66.

There's some decent racing at Yarmouth this evening and final SmartPlay goes in the 19:25, a handicap over a mile and a quarter. Thecornishcowboy could go well at a price, with this drop in trip expected to suit, but it is difficult to ignore the claims of the Gary Moore-trained Tenure, who created an excellent impression when dotting up at Kempton last month. Formerly trained by Sir Michael Stoute, Tenure shaped with promise on debut for this yard before making a mockery of his opening handicap mark at the Sunbury venue, spread-eagling the field a furlong out, and he is well worth sticking with despite having been turned over at short odds on his most recent start, where the suspicion is that he simply found the race coming too soon.
