Timeform UK SmartPlays: Thursday April 19

First up today is Twice Over(16:45) who arguably should be shorter than his current price in the Group 3 Earl of Sefton Stakes given his past exploits at the top level. A high-class multiple Group 1 winner, Twice Over was as good as ever when winning the International Stakes at York last August and though he was not at his best in the Champion Stakes on his final start last year, it is worth remembering that he had won the previous two renewals (at today's course) and he's very much the one to beat this afternoon.

Next up is the Michael Scudamore-trained One For Joules(20:05) who is probably better known for her hurdling exploits but she is also a fair handicapper on the Flat, winning a mile-and-a-half handicap at Roscommon last June. Given her form over further, it was encouraging to see One For Joules shape so well over an inadequate trip (seven furlongs) at Wolverhampton on her reappearance, and she is of definite interest back over a more suitable trip at the same track tonight.

Today's final selection is Topanga Canyon (20.35) who looks a good bet to make it two wins from two outings this year. The Andrew Balding-trained gelding was an expensive purchase and got his three-year-old campaign off to a flyer when showing much-improved form in a first-time visor to win a minor event over course and distance six days ago. Topanga Canyon made all with plenty to spare that day and is expected to defy penalty for that success on his handicap bow.
