Peckhamecho was no match for Boondooma but he did finish with an eye-catching flourish to beat the rest, and he still has plenty to offer from this kind of mark...
The pick of the racing on Sunday comes from Aintree, and Timeform have found three horses that could be worth backing...
We start off with the novices' handicap chase at 14:05 as the lightly raced Distime makes plenty of appeal on his return from an absence. Distime was brought down at Market Rasen on Boxing Day when last seen in action, but he had shaped nicely on his prior start at the same venue, finishing runner-up having jumped and travelled well, shaping as if he were fairly handicapped. He is still relatively low mileage, looks on a decent mark compared to the level he achieved over hurdles, and this appeals as a good opportunity.
Parsnip Pete's jumping occasionally lets him down - as it did when pulled-up at Punchestown on his most recent outing - but he is a useful chaser on his day and looks to have strong claims in the two-mile handicap chase at 14:40. There isn't much stamina on the dam's side of Parsnip Pete's pedigree, so he seems best when the emphasis is firmly on speed, and this course suited him well when he produced a career-best effort to win the valuable Red Rum Chase at the Grand National meeting. With plenty of pace on the cards, the strong-travelling Parnsip Pete should get things run to suit and is likely to go close.
Our final SmartPlay on Sunday comes in the feature three-mile handicap hurdle (15:15) as Peckhamecho can cash in on a favourable mark. Peckhamecho didn't stand much racing last season (ran just twice) but he ran with promise at Chepstow on his return, chasing home a thrown-in, progressive rival. Peckhamecho was no match for Boondooma but he did finish with an eye-catching flourish to beat the rest, and he still has plenty to offer from this kind of mark.
