Our first bet runs in the opening contest on the card (13:30) as we select the Gary Moore-trained Birdie Queen to register a first success. Birdie Queen showed some promise in maidens for her former handler, John Best, but she has improved for her current yard, finishing runner-up on her two most recent outings, first in a maiden and then in a handicap. Birdie Queen hasn't gone up in the weights for her creditable effort last time, where she was no match for the well-backed winner but kept on well for second, and she still looks fairly treated. 

First Class has a fine record at Kempton and he can land the seven-furlong handicap at 14:00. Rae Guest's six-year-old gelding was below his best when last seen at Lingfield in December but he had been in good form prior to that and is worth chancing here. First Class registered a victory over C&D from a 3 lb lower mark in September and he backed up that effort with two creditable placed efforts at this venue. He is slightly vulnerable to an unexposed rival but looks sure to give a good account with the cheekpieces, which were used to good effect when he last won, reapplied.

Red Dragon looks to be on a fair mark at present and is capable of cashing in with the step up to 11 furlongs expected to suit in the 16:30. A three-time Polytrack winner when trained by Charles Hills, Red Dragon has been running well for his new yard, hitting the frame on all four outings, and seems likely to continue in good heart. Unraced beyond one mile for his former yard, Red Dragon appreciated stepping up in trip on his two most recent outings and he remains completely unexposed over this sort of distance. He should run well and retains more potential than most.
