Smartax, representing the in-form Caroline Bailey yard, belatedly matched his French form on chasing debut at Warwick last time. Although that didn't appeal as the strongest of form at the time, the third horse has improved to win since, and there is every chance that a repeat of that effort will be enough to win this modest contest.

Isaacstown Lad - 14:10 Carlisle

Isaacstown Lad has thrived since joining Nicky Richards last season, and made it a perfect three from three when winning on his reappearance at Kelso last month, when beating a subsequent winner by 7 lengths. He has a 10-lb rise in the weights to contend with here in a deeper race, but he seems to be on a steep upward curve and may not have finished improving yet.

Western Breeze - 14:25 Southwell

This drop in trip will benefit Western Breeze after she was seemingly outstayed while shaping best when second at Uttoxeter last month. The others, including the lightly-raced Ruby Rambler, don't appear to be that well treated, and Western Breeze can get off the mark in handicaps.
