Gothic hasn't quite progressed as expected this season, but he is still relatively lightly-raced and looks to have a good chance of bouncing back to winning ways in Leicester's 10-furlong handicap at 15:00. The expensively-purchased Gothic got off the mark in a maiden at this venue last season, and he looked the type that would take off once sent handicapping for his powerful yard. Things haven't gone according to plan - though he did shape very well at Goodwood three starts ago - but he remains with some scope off his current mark and may benefit from the move away from Sandown, where the very stiff finish seems to be playing against his strengths. Gothic is open to more improvement than his rivals and deserves another chance.

The following six-furlong handicap (15:30) is a good-quality affair, featuring a number of progressive three-year-olds, but the thrice-raced Dinneratmidnight could prove to be a cut above the opposition. Dinneratmidnight, who is bred to be sharp, made a winning racecourse debut at Warwick and was fast-tracked into an ultra-competitive, valuable York handicap on just his second start. He was too green to do himself justice on that occasion, finishing down the field under considerate handling, but he bounced back to winning ways at Lingfield on his next outing, doing it with a bit up his sleeve, and he remains with plenty of potential having made just the three starts.

Our final SmartPlay on Sunday runs at Windsor as we side with Artistic Charm in the six-furlong handicap at 15:45. Like many from her yard, Artistic Charm made a slow start to the current campaign, though there were definite signs that she is back on the up based on her performance when finishing runner-up at Newmarket last time. Artistic Charm shaped better than the bare result at Newmarket as she was held up towards the rear in a falsely-run race, doing well to finish as close as she did. That was by no means the limit of her ability and she can register a first success of the season. NON RUNNER
