Alan King has his horses in fine form at the moment and it is hoped that Fair Trade - a one-time smart performer on the Flat - can provide his handler with another success in the opening race at Wincanton (13:40). Fair Trade was held in such high regard as a three-year-old that he actually contested the 2000 Guineas, and while he never really fulfilled his potential on the level, his performances this season indicate that he retains a fair bit of ability. With just the three hurdles starts to his name, there is good reason to suspect that Fair Trade is capable of better in this sphere and, with doubts about main rival Suerte Al Salto's temperament, he is presented with a good opportunity to get off the mark over hurdles.

The Venetia Williams-trained Rocky Bender remains with plenty of potential and can register victory in the 14:40. Very lightly raced for an eight-year-old, Rocky Bender showed improved form on his handicap bow over hurdles, finishing third at Lingfield in February, and there is every chance this winning pointer can show further progress over the larger obstacles. Roll The Dice sets a fair standard but he is not open to the same level of improvement as Venetia Williams' charge.

We are hoping for a change of luck with our final SmartPlay as Umberto d'Olivate (15:10) has been running really well of late, simply appearing unfortunate to bump into a few really progressive types. Having chased home a pair of subsequent winners on his penultimate start, Robert Walford's five-year-old again ran into a progressive rival, finishing second as the front pair pulled clear of the remainder. It was encouraging to see the selection run on strongly all the way to the line and he's proven under today's conditions.
