Timeform UK SmartPlays: Saturday September 27

The Richard Hannon-trained Remember looked a pattern-race filly in the making when scoring on her nursery debut at York last time and she is expected to take Newmarket's 16:25 despite having been raised 6 lb by the handicapper. The juvenile was held back by inexperience when finishing down the field on debut but has made up for that since, beating subsequent winner Perfect Alchemy in a Newmarket maiden prior to her aforementioned exploits on the Knavesmire, where she scored by a length and a quarter but had plenty in hand. She is sure to progress further and is certainly one to have on side. 

Newmarket's 17:00 is a competitive handicap staged over a mile, with the verdict going to Godolphin's Gold Hunter who looked unlucky not to go close when a fast-finishing third at Doncaster last time. The three-year-old impressed when making a winning seasonal return in July and, though he didn't quite progress as expected in two starts after that, he was back on the up when last seen and arguably should have done better, being short of room after halfway and then forced to make his challenge in a slightly isolated position. A mark of 93 looks to be very workable and hee is one to note. 

It's something of a surprise to see our final SmartPlay in the 17:50 at Haydock rather than the Cambridgeshire, as he would surely have gone close in that race, but we are going to side with Short Squeeze nonetheless. The three-year-old has taken off in recent months, displaying an impressive turn of foot to win at Sandown before positively storming clear in a competitive race at York last time, crossing the line three and a half lengths in front of his nearest rival. A 12 lb rise in the weights clearly demands more but he is on the upgrade and a bold show seems likely.
