William Haggas: Trainer of Ertijaal.

"Ertijaal met with a setback after his Yarmouth romp in June but remains a most exciting prospect and can take this before going on to greater things..."

Lingfield plays host to some cracking action on Saturday and is the venue for Timeform's three SmartPlays...

The listed Hever Sprint Stakes, due off at 14:40, is quite a competitive affair in which it's possible to make a case for the likes of Addictive Dream, Ladies Are Forever and Stepper Point. The pick at the weights however appears to be Kingsgate Choice, trained by Ed de Giles, who was better than ever last year when recording handicap successes at both York and Musselburgh. His chance is also bolstered by the fact that he was a C&D winner two years ago and has a good record when fresh, so he is expected to go very close indeed.

The following event at Lingfield, the listed Spring Cup for three-year-old's, is another competitive contest but it largely revolves around the returning Ertijaal, who met with a setback after his Yarmouth romp in June but remains a most exciting prospect and can take this before going on to greater things. Trained by William Haggas, Ertijaal finished an excellent second to Toormore on debut at Leicester, beaten only a quarter of a length, and then went on to hack up at Yarmouth. He reportedly suffered no major injury but a slight setback meant that connections were in no rush to bring him back, preferring instead to keep him for this season. He will need to win here if he's to fulfil Classic expectations but he's open to any amount of improvement and could take plenty of beating.

Our final bet goes in the one mile handicap at 17:00, a race in which the one open to most improvement is Mark Johnston's Mondlicht, who is unbeaten in two outings. Both have come on the fibresand at Southwell however and he needs to prove he's as good on polytrack, so can be opposed with Stasio, who has shaped well on his last two starts and could be poised to strike. The four-year-old, who won here in 2012, had a fairly patchy profile last season but he has looked to be right back on track recently, and is certainly not one to give up on just yet.
