Timeform bring you their three best bets from Newcastle and Newmarket on Saturday...
We kick off proceedings with the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes from Newcastle (14:40) and although three-year-olds hold a modest record in this event, they hold strong claims with Danzeno and Saayerr. Preference is for the latter given that he was beaten little more than a length when trying to give 3 lb to Shifting Power in the Free Handicap at Newbury on his seasonal reappearance which looked a highly creditable effort. He quickly progressed into a useful performer last year winning three of his first four starts, including a Grade 2, and considering William Haggas has his string in red-hot form of late the stars look to be aligned for a winning performance, although he won't have it all his own way in what looks a competitive renewal of the contest.
We head to south to Newmarket for the next contest under consideration, the Group 3 Criterion Stakes over seven furlongs (15:30) and the one to keep on side looks to be Tawhid. He ended his three-year-old campaign with a listed success and travelled strongly for a long way in the Timeform Jury Stakes at Haydock last time. He's versatile in terms of going which is more than can be said for some of his opponents today and he shaped with real promise on his seasonal reappearance, leaving the distinct impression he'd come on a good deal for the run. If that's the case then he's more than earned a crack at this sort of level as a four-year-old and although there are dangers, namely the talented Gregorian, the selection looks to have an excellent chance now he's benefitted from a pipe opener.
We return to Gosforth Park for our final bet of the day which comes in the ultra-competitive Northumberland Plate (15:50) and it goes without saying that any number arrive here with strong claims. The one for our money is Tropical Beat, who showed himself to be progressive for John Gosden in 2012 and looked to have retained all of his ability in his three starts for David O'Meara last year. He was a creditable third on his return at Newmarket over a mile-and-three-quarters and should have come on a good deal for that run. This season looks likely to be a significant one for his handler as he attempts to translate his dominance in day-to-day handicaps to more competitive and valuable races, and he looks to have an excellent chance to land this prestigious prize with Tropical Beat.
