Sandown's 14:40 is the scene of our first SmartPlay, where Trade Commissioner, trained by John Gosden, stands out in what would otherwise be an ultra-competitive handicap. The field is tightly-knit on form, just 8 lb separating the runners, but Trade Commissioner heads the Timeform weight-adjusted ratings and remains with plenty of potential to improve further. The four-year-old has made only a quartet of racecourse appearances, progressing with each run and winning on two occasions, and his latest victory, beating a decent field at Salisbury, represented a marked step forward. The Gosden yard remains in fine form, and Trade Commissioner looks more than capable of adding to his seasonal tally.

Moving on to Beverley, where Captivity is taken to gain a second career-success in the 16:10. The three-year-old made all to get off the mark at Wolverhampton in February and went on to put up a career-best effort, over C&D, on his penultimate start when beaten just a short-head into second. His most recent run underlined the fact that he is best when not hassled for the lead, a circumstance likely to be granted in this field, and Captivity strikes as having leading claims here.

Trainer Rae Guest is enjoying an excellent season and has a solid chance of securing another success with Guilietta in Beverley's 16:45. The three-year-old hinted at ability on her first two starts in maidens, both on the all-weather, and went on to show plenty of promise on her turf debut at Goodwood in May, keeping on well and nearest at the finish. It is likely that she has more to offer now handicapping and returned to a longer distance, as she is bred to stay at least this far, and today may be the day that Guilietta registers her first success.
