"Providing Gregorian is none the worse for his recent overseas voyage he will be very tough to beat..."

Timeform advise one bet apiece from Newmarket, Newbury and Ripon on a busy Saturday's racing...

Our first bet of the day comes in a valuable three-year-old handicap at Newmarket over six furlongs (14:55) and Eastern Impact gets the vote. He's been in fine form this season, winning a handicap on the Rowley Mile before taking a further step up in a red-hot C&D handicap last time. He was well positioned but deserves extra credit for finding more in the closing stages and found only the well-handicapped Fast Track too strong. He had the re-opposing Suzi's Connoisseur back in third and is taken to confirm the form with that rival here, with a decent chance he'll go one better and record his second win of the season. Rising Star Jack Garrity's claim cancels out the 4 lb rise he'd have to contend with otherwise and he looks to have an excellent chance.

It's north to Ripon for the Great St. Wilfrid Stakes next (15:30) and this year's renewal of the six-furlong handicap looks as tricky as ever. The horse to carry our hopes is Out Do, who was behind the re-opposing duo of Another Wise Kid and Piper's Note when third over C&D on his most recent outing, but wasn't suited by the lack of pace in the early stages. Given there's sure to be a stronger gallop set this time and that the selection has run some admirable races in defeat so far this year, this could be the contest where he finally converts a strong performance into a winning one. He'll need luck in-running but so will most in what is always a race decided by fine margins, but if he gets a chance then he will certainly play a part in the finish.

Finally, we head to Newbury for the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes over seven furlongs (15:50) and it's hard to see past defending champion Gregorian. He is easily forgiven his latest run in the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest after racing on an unfavoured part of the track, prior to that showing he's better than ever this season. His third in the July Cup sets a clear standard on form and if you add into the mix that he was an excellent winner of this race 12 months ago, the stage looks set for him to make it back-to-back renewals. Chil The Kite put up a very smart performance when runner-up in the Royal Hunt Cup whilst any rain would enhance Breton Rock's claims, but providing the selection is none the worse for his recent overseas voyage he will be very tough to beat.
