After two wins from three selections yesterday we head to Brighton and Hamilton today to try and continue our winning start to September...
We head first to the fillies' maiden at Brighton (15:00) where Genuine Quality is expected to prove appropriately named at the fourth time of asking. She coped admirably with a drop to the minimum trip at Ripon last time, only losing out by a neck to Complicit. The third in that contest has scored twice subsequently and Genuine Quality sets a clear standard on form as a result; she found one too good on her two starts prior to that occasion, losing out narrowly on her first racecourse start at Doncaster before not being seen to best effect at Leicester. However the step back up to six furlongs here is expected to suit, and she is too well bred not to score in this type of contest. Today can be her day and should get us off to a winning start.
We head north to Hamilton to take in the 11-furlong handicap (16:10) which has a competitive look to it. The vote narrowly goes to Irish raider Lindenhurst, who has proved a valuable dual-purpose asset so far this summer after bolting up in a juvenile hurdle at Bangor before returning to the Flat in Ireland to take a 10-furlong handicap at Tramore. He looks a very progressive type and although he competes off a stone higher than the mark he won off in Ireland today, he is taken to defy that rise in the weights and has given the impression there is still significant improvement to come. However there is a long list of dangers, with the Mick Easterby pair of Hernando Torres and Hot Spice heading it.
The closing sprint handicap at Brighton (17:30) is the final race under consideration today, in which the progressive Pilates should get the better of some more exposed rivals, despite the drop in trip not completely to her advantage. She hasn't failed to place in her last three starts and capped those off at Bath last time when she beat a potentially useful Sir Mark Prescott charge, staying on well to score by one and three-quarter lengths. The yard is in a rich vein of form at present and she is taken to continue their excellent run and make it back-to-back wins, however Saskia's Dream merits respect on the back of shaping well in a competitive contest at Newmarket last time.
