Timeform UK SmartPlays: Monday October 15

The first race in Britain and Ireland today is the 13:40 at Musselburgh, and that is the scene of our opening SmartPlay in the shape of Future Wonder. The three-year-old won at Ripon in August on debut for Brian Ellison but has not been seen to best effect in her two subsequent starts, seemingly disadvantaged by the run of the race when fourth at Beverley before meeting trouble in-running when third at Warwick 11 days ago. With conditions in her favour, Future Wonder is taken to atone for her recent misfortune.

Joshua Tree, under a simply superb ride from the master Frankie Dettori, earned Marco Botti one of the biggest successes of his burgeoning training career as he landed the Canadian International at Woodbine last night. Botti has an excellent chance of success in the 14:30 at Windsor with Cheektocheek, a two-year-old who overcame greenness to make a winning debut at Yarmouth in July, running on well to lead close home. He went on to shape better than the result on his nursery bow at Wolverhampton, staying on at the finish to take third but likely to have benefitted from a stronger gallop and, with the suspicion being that he is on a handy mark, he looks a decent bet this afternoon.

Having got underway nice and early our punting afternoon will also conclude promptly, hopefully with the success of The Name Is Frank in the 14:50 at Salisbury. The seven-year-old hasn't exactly set the world alight in recent months, but as a result he has slipped to a favourable mark of 55 which, given that he finished second and third over C&D off a mark of 64 earlier in the year, leaves him looking rather well treated. The Name Is Frank was doing his best work at the finish on his most recent start and, if able to build on that, he is unlikely to be far away here.
