Ryan Moore has a good strike rate for William Haggas

Bar his juvenile debut, Cape Classic has an enviable race record...

Timeform's SmartPlays team believe today's tips can get them back on track after a couple of near misses yesterday. Read on for this afternoon's best bets...

Frankie Dettori is always popular with racegoers but he can be even more adored at Leicester this afternoon as he looks to hold strong claims of riding a winner on Yankee Storm (17:00) in the concluding seven-furlong handicap. Granted all seven of Yankee Storm's wins have been gained on all-weather but he's only had 11 starts on turf compared to 48 on an artificial surface and his BHA mark on grass is some 15 lb lower, meaning he should be taken very seriously this evening. The fact that shrewd trainer Michael Wigham booked Ryan Moore for Yankee Storm's last two starts (won one) suggests the horse is in top form at the minute and the recruiting of Dettori is evidence to suggest that he's ready to go in again.

Lucy Alexander is best known for her exploits over jumps, the young conditional having struck up a formidable partnership with five-time winner Red Tanber over the winter, but there's a chance she can gain her third win on the level with the returning Billy Dane (18:20) in the seven-furlong apprentice handicap that opens the card at Carlisle. Whilst acknowledging that backing Billy Dane comes with risk attached, the horse having not been seen since September 2010, Barry Murtagh's four-time winner has been given a break by the handicapper as he's been dropped 6 lb since last seen and is now 9 lb lower than when fourth of 11 to the now smart Justonefortheroad at Musselburgh on his penultimate start. Effective under today's conditions, he's worth supporting win and place at long odds.

The only time Ryan Moore partnered King's Apostle was to ride him to victory in the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville and the rider gets the chance to continue his association with the family when reuniting with Cape Classic (19:10) in the six-furlong handicap at Windsor. Bar his juvenile debut, Cape Classic has an enviable race record having won six-furlong races at Salisbury (maiden) and Ffos Las (handicap) and finished in the frame on six other occasions, most recently when a good second to Italian Tom at Doncaster on his return. Cape Classic endured a troubled passage that day and is expected to gain compensation off just a 3 lb higher mark with the William Haggas-Moore combination operating at a 35% strike rate in the last five seasons.
