Timeform UK SmartPlays: Monday June 24

The 20:20 on Thirsk's card looks to be a fairly trappy event, with not a great deal separating the field on Timeform weight-adjusted ratings, but the one that could have something in hand from his present mark is Aerodynamic, trained by Mick Easterby. The six-year-old is capable when on song and is now 3 lb lower than his last winning mark having been largely out of form since scoring at Nottingham last August. His most recent outing, at Beverley last month, hinted at a revival however and if he can build upon that he ought to be in the firing line here. 

Confusing, who was trained in France last year but switched to the yard of David O'Meara over the winter, appears to be finding her feet for her new connections and is fancied to go close in the 20:50. The three-year-old probably needed the run on her first outing but has shaped better than the bare result would indicate over an inadequate seven furlongs the last twice, particularly so at this venue last time when she finished fast and was only just denied. A return to a mile will be in her favour and she seems sure to acquit herself well. 

There's a pretty good chance that the field will split into two groups in Thirsk's concluding event, complicating what is already a tricky, large field, six furlong sprint, but it is worth taking a chance on Lees Anthem. The six-year-old's losing run stretches back to August of 2010 but he is more than capable from this sort of mark, as evidenced when not beaten far into second at Musselburgh on his latest visit to the track. His draw in stall 20, right up against the stands rail, could be a handy one and the booking of Graham Lee catches the eye so he is worth siding with.
