The 16:30 at Ayr can only be described as an ordinary race of its type, so one so unexposed as Ronald Gee instantly catches the eye. He didn't offer much in bumpers of maidens but changed our perception of him entirely with a pair-clear second to an improving Dalgleish charge at Musselburgh last time. This slightly longer trip won't pose Ronald Gee much in the way of problems, so long as he's not pitched into a pace battle, while a rise of 4 lb for his last run is perfectly fair, perhaps even lenient in the context of this race.

We head to Windsor for the next contest under consideration, a sprint handicap over five furlongs (19:20) and the one to keep on side looks to be Hannah's Turn. She was particularly impressive when taking a handicap over this evening's trip at Haydock last month, and although she shoulders a 7 lb rise for that performance this evening, there is still cause for optimism. Taken on the pick of her exploits on the all-weather there should be more than enough scope to follow up off this higher mark and if you add to the equation that talented claimer Marc Monaghan is taking 5 lb off her back, she looks to have a better chance than it might first appear to make it two wins in her last two starts. 

We head to Ripon for our final bet of the day, which comes in the concluding handicap over a mile (21:00) and plenty line up in decent form. Narrow preference is given to Icy Blue, who has been shaping as if coming back to the boil in the turf season so far. That impression was confirmed when a fast-closing third at Thirsk last time over seven furlongs and now returned to his optimum trip this evening, he looks to hold strong claims. He has only been raised a pound for that performance and although the likes of Irondale Express and Violent Velocity are sure to be there or thereabouts, the selection might just have too much in the locker.
