Timeform head to Lingfield and Ayr for Monday's three SmartPlays...

The opening event at Lingfield, a claimer over six furlongs, appeals as an ideal opportunity for Ziefhd to get back to winning ways on her first start at this level. The three-year-old made a good seasonal reappearance when second at this venue over a furlong further, finding only Xinbama, who went on to win his next start, too strong. Ziefhd has not really built on that since, but an ease in grade and the application of cheekpieces for the first time are likely to help. Redair, who is enjoying a profitable 2012, is sure to be popular, whilst Asian Trader may have more to offer now tried in a tongue tie, but trainer Paul Cole has recorded three successes recently and Ziefhd has every chance of adding to that tally.

Moving on to Ayr where another in-form trainer, Tom Dascombe, can enter the winners' enclosure once more with Ballista in the 15:40. The four-year-old did not need to be at his best when recording a second career success at Catterick in May, but he produced a much better performance when third at Chester on his recent start. King of Eden and Beckermet, first and fourth respectively that day, both went on to score on their subsequent starts and Ballista, beaten just a length, did the best of those ridden close to the pace as he stuck to his task in the closing stages. Emeralds Spriit rates as the biggest danger, but Ballista is fancied to go well once more.

Heading back to Lingfield for the 17:10, in which Arch Villain is taken to see off Mizbah on his return to polytrack. Arch Villain improved to make a winning seasonal and handicap debut at Kempton in May, having been gelded over the winter, and he was not disgraced in a four-runner minor event at Goodwood last time in which he was not seen to best effect. Mizbah is the obvious danger, his fast-finishing effort at Wolverhampton on his most recent start catching the eye, but Arch Villain, racing from just a 4 lb higher mark than for his Kempton win, appeals as the type to win more races and can take this prize.
