"Dungenness was impressive at Warwick last month and lines up off the same mark today..."

Timeform bring you one bet apiece from Musselburgh, Plumpton and Wolverhampton on Monday...

Our first bet of the day sees us head north to Musselburgh for the two-and-a-half mile handicap chase (14:50) and a chance is taken on Moonlight Maggie, who needs to jump better than she has done recently but holds strong claims if capable of doing so. She should have won at Catterick in December with a mistake late on probably costing her the race, and she shaped with real promise at Huntingdon last time too and was travelling with real purpose before falling three out. She is lightly raced for a seven-year-old and still has the potential for significant improvement, and looks to be on a very winnable mark at present. The question is whether she can iron out the errors that have cost her on the last two occasions, but with the stable in good form of present there's every reason to give her another chance. Dingo Bay and Oh Right arrive in good form but have been hit hard by the handicapper for their victories last time.

It's a two-mile handicap hurdle from Plumpton up next (15:10) and with Clonusker a non-runner, the task looks to have got significantly easier for Dungenness.  He made all at Warwick last month and was impressive on that occasion, travelling fluently in front and ending up well on top at the finish, for all that he had the run of the race. His rider broke a stirrup leather and subsequently lost both irons before he had a chance to play his hand at Exeter last time, but had been travelling strongly up until that unfortunate incident three out. An upside to that stroke of bad luck is that he lines up off the same mark this time, and it looks highly likely he'll be involved in the finish at the very least now his main market rival misses the contest. He is a confident selection for the unstoppable Coleman-Williams axis to get another week off to a winning start.

The final race under consideration is a nine-furlong handicap for apprentice riders at Wolverhampton (16:30) and the vote goes to four-time course winner Mr Red Clubs. He ran well over C&D on Thursday, shaping with promise considering he had a 4 lb rise to deal with, and crucially this looks a much weaker contest and one he is capable of winning. He also has the services of stable claimer Ali Rawlinson, who is building up an excellent record early in his career and looks outstanding value for the 5 lb he takes off. The combination of his course record and the talents of the rider on board mean that Mr Red Clubs has an excellent chance to record another win in less stellar company than he's been racing in previously.
