Timeform UK SmartPlays: Friday October 4
Two of today's bets come from Fontwell

"Brackloon High clearly warrants respect, but at the price currently on offer any value has probably dried up."

After a 41/1 double yesterday, Friday's SmartPlays deal with the good-quality cards at Ascot and Fontwell...

Our only visit to Ascot is for the six-furlong handicap at 15:05. Can You Conga's career is only six starts old, but there are still a whole host of positives in his profile. He's bred to be a useful sprinter for a start, and has been progressing towards that level so far without suggesting he's reached his peak just yet. Under Raul Da Silva last time, Can You Conga went to a fairly high price in-running when gaining a second success at Newmarket. He really ought to suit this equally stiff course at Ascot; in fact, he's already gone a long way to proving that, finishing second on over C&D on his penultimate start. Among the best-treated in the race as it is, any further improvement should see Can You Conga go close.

The bald facts of our second selection run thus: Street Entertainer was once useful over hurdles, as he was on the Flat; he's come back to something like that level on the Flat recently and reciprocal recovery over hurdles will see him win the 15:15 at Fontwell from the mark he's dropped to. We wouldn't put him up solely on that basis, but there are other clues. First off, this trip and sharp course ought to suit a horse with the requisite speed for the Flat, while the booking of AP McCoy suggests that the Pipe yard have Street Entertainer where they want him. Take heed.

We're flipping any perceived 'McCoy factor' on its head for our final selection. In the 16:25, the Champion Jockey rides Brackloon High, who is making his first start for Brendan Powell after leaving Noel Chance. Brackloon High clearly warrants respect, but at the price currently on offer any value has probably dried up. Instead, take Dreamsoftheatre. It may look as though McCoy has turned down this JP McManus-owned gelding, but it's to be remembered that crack claimer Maurice Linehan has guided him to victory on each of his last three starts, so it's not inconceivable that it's been sportingly agreed upon for Linehan to keep the ride. Dreamsoftheatre has been progressing by the run on his recent winning streak and, for all his evident quirks, would be tough to beat if continuing in that vein.
