The fact that William Buick has seemingly chosen Michelangelo may be a bit of a red herring as Ryan Moore rides regularly for Jungle Beat's owners...
Another profitable day yesterday continued a red-hot spell for Timeform's SmartPlays team. Here are Friday's three best bets to set you up for the weekend...
As has been well documented, Marcus Tregoning is in a purple patch of his own which means a viable case can be make for Konstantin (15:10) stepping up markedly on his seasonal return in the seven-furlong handicap at Goodwood. Having shown a degree of promise in juvenile maidens, Konstantin proved a different proposition in handicaps last year, winning over today's trip at Leicester in April, and Brighton and Epsom in August, finishing in the frame in each of his other four starts. Each of Konstantin's victories have come under today's jockey Hayley Turner and, with the rider full of confidence having ridden three winners from her last six mounts, the pair can successfully combine at reasonable odds.
John Gosden's Group 2 entry Michelangelo is likely to be very popular in the listed Cocked Hat Stakes having finished upsides Derby possibles Noble Mission and Mariner's Cross on his recent debut, but stablemate Jungle Beat (15:45) makes more appeal at current odds. The Coolmore-owned Jungle Beat justified market strength when winning a warm seven-furlong maiden at Newbury on his debut and returned with an encouraging effort in the nine-furlong listed Feilden Stakes at Newmarket in April, improving but barely having a race after being short of room towards the inside from three out to over a furlong from home. The fact that William Buick has seemingly chosen Michelangelo may be a bit of a red herring as Ryan Moore rides regularly for Jungle Beat's owners and the former champion actually has a 33% strike rate when riding for Gosden in the last five seasons.
Not far behind Tregoning in the recent winners' stakes is Robin Bastiman, who may get a boost for Borderlescott's Temple Stakes bid tomorrow when Kyllachykov (15:55) runs in division two of the mile handicap at Yarmouth. Still a maiden after eight starts he may be but Kyllachykov ran easily his best race when a neck runner-up to Join Up (won again since) over today's trip at Bath (soft) last time and, on 6 lb better terms with that rival, he's expected to reverse the form this afternoon. The return to better ground isn't expected to pose a problem and the booking of Neil Callan suggests connections feel today's the day.
