Kyllachy Star won the opening race on day three of Chester's May meeting last year and look set to repeat the dose on the Roodee at 13:35. That win in 2011, when beating the reopposing Pintura (in the same ownership), came from a 3 lb higher mark than he is set to race off today and he arrives on the back of a highly-encouraging reappearance second in the Spring Mile at Doncaster. It's a smaller field than he faced last year and the draw has been kinder, boxed in stall 3 this time as opposed to 12 in 2011, so everything looks in place for a big run from Kyllachy Star, who represents the trainer (Richard Fahey) and jockey (Tony Hamilton) who landed the Vase yesterday with Mickdaam.

The in-form Ruth Carr goes for back-to-back wins in the 7f handicap later on the Chester card (15:40), having landed the race in 2011 with Imperial Djay, and her strongest candidate this time around looks to be Orpsie Boy. An admirable veteran who has more than paid his way over the years, Orpsie Boy won two handicaps last summer and also made a winning reappearance at Thirsk on Saturday. He's still well handicapped even under a 6 lb penalty for that success, when he did well to overhaul his front-running stablemate Klynch after coming from behind and, if the gaps open up for him when he needs them this afternoon, then he's sure to be right in the mix.

The final SmartPlay comes on Ascot's evening card, where Gouray Girl looks a good bet in the 6f handicap (19:45). Four of the six runners arrive fit and in form, but Gouray Girl shaped so well on her reappearance at Leicester that she looks a value selection even at around 3.185/40. She dropped in the weights as a result of some patchy form in 2011 for Walter Swinburn and, with conditions in her favour more than most, is expected to make the most of what looks a good opportunity tonight on her second start for Henry Candy.
