Timeform head to Sandown and Thirsk for Friday's SmartPlays...
Horses drawn low often hold a distinct advantage on Sandown's sprint track and it is hoped that the bias is in evidence once more this afternoon with Angel Way (14:50) fancied to go well from stall three. The four-year-old got off the mark at Ffos Las last year but has improved for the drop back to the minimum trip this month, shaping well when second to Swendab at Newbury prior to hitting the mark at Newmarket just over a fortnight ago. A 4 lb rise incurred for that win looks fair enough, and it would not come as a surprise were she to enter the winners' enclosure once more.
Having gone with the perceived draw bias at Sandown were now going to go against the grain at Thirsk by selecting Holy Angel, who is drawn one in the six furlong handicap at 15:45. Holy Angel may not look the most convincing in hiss races but he is consistent, running to a similar level on his last six outings and regularly shaping better than the bare result due to either meeting with interference or being unsuited by a steady pace. He is poised to strike when things fall his way, and that could just be the case this afternoon.
Sandown's 15:55 is a good handicap, with Regal Silk, Enobled and Brownsea Brink all making appeal, but the one we want on side is Breden, who is taken to complete the hat-trick. The three-year-old, a half-brother to the useful winners Shining Armour and Rock Jock, has progressed with racing, getting off the mark on his seasonal reappearance at Kempton and following that up in a competitive handicap at Newmarket earlier this month. Breden ought to continue to progress for some time yet, and he can defy a 4 lb higher mark here.
