Timeform are taking on Gold Cup contender Holywell on his seasonal reappearance

"However, Holywell may be worth opposing on his reappearance over a trip short of his best and Eduard could be best placed to capitalise..."

Timeform bring you their three best bets from Huntingdon and Carlisle an unexpectedly classy day of racing...

Huntingdon 13:15 - Paradise Valley

We kick off proceedings with a potentially informative novices' chase from Huntingdon over an extended two-and-a-half miles, and the one to keep on side is Paradise Valley. He's always been held in high regard by connections and has made a promising start to his career. He recorded his second win from four starts when last seen here back in April and given he's got the physical scope to improve significantly over fences and is bred to get this trip, he is taken to continue his fine strike rate and make a winning start to life over fences. That said, both Chris Pea Green and Un Ace merit serious respect given their exploits over hurdles in what looks a fascinating contest.

Carlisle 15:10 - Phoenix Returns

We head to Carlisle for the next contest under consideration which comes in a competitive handicap hurdle over two-and-a-half miles. Following the withdrawal of likely favourite Alaivan, the task for Phoenix Returns looks to have got significantly easier. He endured a disappointing campaign last term but he's very much back on the up, building on a third at Kelso with a success at Hexham over a furlong shorter last month. Given his generally progressive profile there's reason to suggest now that he's back in form that there is scope for better still, and as this contest won't take nearly as much winning as it did before, Phoenix Returns is taken to capitalise.

Carlisle 15:45 - Eduard

We remain north for our final bet of the day which comes in the feature contest, a listed intermediate chase over two-and-a-half miles which features the return of ante-post Gold Cup favourite Holywell. However, he may be worth opposing on his reappearance over a trip short of his best and Eduard could be best placed to capitalise. He ended last campaign with a success in Grade 2 company at Ayr, ending a campaign which saw him improve leaps and bounds over fences in some style. There's likely to be more to come from him this season and at the likely prices he rates as the best value bet in the race by a considerable margin.
