Towcester 14:25 - Great Choice

Great Choice failed to win last season, but he put up some creditable efforts in defeat, notably when finishing runner-up on his return at the Cheltenham Open meeting. As it transpired, Great Choice had little chance against the well-handicapped Chesterfield, but he stuck to his task well, shaping like a horse who would benefit from racing at distances beyond two miles. He proved his stamina for this kind of test when going close over 21 furlongs at Plumpton, and he can gain an overdue victory.

Chelmsford 17:40 - Oceanographer

Oceanographer was bitterly disappointing on his reappearance at Leicester in April, but something was clearly amiss that day, and it is hoped that he can belatedly build on the promise he showed as a juvenile last year. Oceanographer boasts a good pedigree, put up a strong-galloping performance when winning at Pontefract, and was sent off as a strongly-supported 8/11 favourite at Leicester, suggesting that he is held in high regard. He can bounce back and take this en route to better things.

Chelmsford 18:15 - Spanish Squeeze

It is a bit disconcerting that Spanish Squeeze hasn't been seen since finishing a close-up fourth in a listed race at Lingfield in April - and has been subsequently gelded - but he shaped with clear promise on that occasion and looks fairly treated on his handicap bow. This is a good race, featuring a mix of solid all-weather performers and potential improvers, but Spanish Squeeze remains completely unexposed, is in excellent hands and could prove a cut above his rivals.
