A useful contest. Ifandbutwhynot has shown enough to suggest he's just about as good over fences as hurdles and can take advantage of what looks a fair opening mark in this sphere (won off higher over hurdles). Swaledale Lad will be sharper for a couple of spins over timber and won't be far away if returning to the form he showed last summer, while Sir Valentino arrives on the back of a win.

John Ferguson holds a strong hand with Retrieve and Sea Lord, the former worth chancing off bottom weight over a C&D which should prove ideal. Nathans Pride and Streets of Newyork complete the shortlist.

Bothy - 16:30 Musselburgh

Bothy ran his best race for ages at Cheltenham on New Year's Day and could end a long losing run if building on that here. Aintree-winner Dawalan will be suited by the step up in trip and is sure to be popular, while Fly Vinnie bids to make it three course wins from his last four starts.
