Saturday Racing Multi Tips: Lyons set to roar at Leopardstown for a big price handicap double

Alan is siding with two handicappers on the opening day of Irish Champions weekend

Alan Dudman is looking forward to the high quality action in Ireland on Saturday for Irish Champions weekend and he has a big price [44/1] double...

Saturday, Leopardstown, 14:10 Tip: Back Krasimir @ 13/2]

Saturday's focus at Leopardstown looks a must for me and tackling the handicaps is the angle of attack with trainer Ger Lyons.

The booking of excellent apprentice Reece Holohan to take 7lb is always valuable in a big handicap and he is enjoying a decent season on the level with 25 winners.

With an ultra lightweight too, Krasimir comes into the race off the back of a good third at York last time over a trip that possibly stretched him.

I don't doubt he stayed well enough but his finishing effort wasn't as strong as the first two who were well clear, but going into the straight he was perfectly poised to attack and travelled with a degree of comfort.

His run before at Galway saw him go too soon into the straight on quite testing ground but back to 7f on a better surface and the ability to travel well should stand him in good stead as he's a lightly-raced handicapper.

Saturday, Leopardstown, 18:10: Back Suzie Songs @ 5/16.00

Mr Lyons better have a good day on Saturday as his Suzie Songs has Colin Keane engaged and she's proving to be most progressive.

She's a 5/16.00 shot at the top of the market for a Premier Handicap and a big field so it's not exactly a wild swing but she won a Cork Listed race in good style last time and switching to a handicap from 98 is a most fascinating move from the trainer.

I don't doubt connections have thought about a Group race as she put to the sword some good handicappers last time at Cork with the likes of Spinning Around, LL Koulsty, Keke and Sindagan all behind.

Like her previous win at Naas, both were off reasonably steady paces but she has a good turn of foot on quick ground and running around 10.60 seconds at the penultimate furlong at the Mallow venue is pretty good going.

Stepping up to 1m here could unlock, and should unlock some further improvement and if the ground stays good and gets quicker with a spot of light rain forecast on Friday, she'll have her surface to play with.
