Steve fancies a Dane at a triple-figure price in Abu Dhabi, and he's got a strong fancy at a big price in Mexico too
As highlighted in the preview, the Abu Dhabi Championship has been a decent event for outsiders over the years, so it was tempting to play a few long-shots before the off.
Thriston Lawrence looks a big price again given how prolific he is and that he finished sixth here two years ago, but the one that appears to be flying even lower under the radar is the recent Danish Championship winner, Jeff Winther.
Since his victory in his homeland in August, Jeff Winther has only ordinary form figures reading MC-23-15-10-MC-26 but he's been playing better than the numbers suggest of late.
He sat second at the halfway stage of the Open de France before fading to finish 10th three starts ago and although he missed the 54-hole cut, he was inside the top 10 after two rounds of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship next time out.
He finished only 26th in the Open de Espana last time out but again, he was nicely placed at halfway, sitting tied for sixth.
He won the Danish Golf Championship thanks to his excellent approach play (ranked first for Greens In Regulation and only 40th for Putting Average) but he's been putting nicely of late and that will be a big help here in what often transpires to be a putting contest.
Ranking ninth, 14th and seventh for Putting Average on the last three occasions he's made the cut, he returns to a venue he's shown an aptitude for previously with the right club in the bag behaving itself.
Winther finished sixth here on debut back in 2022 and that's far from the first time that he's shown a liking for paspalum greens.
In addition to his top-six finish here, he's finished inside the top three at Al Mouj in Oman, Doha in Qatar, and Meloneras in the Canary Islands - three courses that all have paspalum greens.
The Aussie, Cam Davis, keeps catching my eye and he did so again when he finished the Mexico Open with an eight-under-par 63 on Sunday.
I wouldn't put anyone off throwing a few pennies in his direction at 200/1201.00 and above on the Betfair Exchange but the one I really like in Mexico this week is the 30-year-old American, Trace Crowe.
As highlighted in the preview, this event really is a putting contest (the first three course winners have ranked second, fourth and second for PA).
It's never easy to know who's go to putt well from one week to the next, but Crowe definitely found something on the exact strain of paspalum used last week as he'll encounter here and I was more than happy to back him at 85.084/1 on the Betfair Exchange.
Having ranked only 79th for Strokes Gained: Putting in round one and 23rd in round two, Crowe ranked sixth in round three and first in round four.
Having gained more than four strokes on the field on Sunday, Crowe is bound to be licking his lips about putting on the same surfaces again this week and there are numerous other reasons to think he'll go well.
Sitting at 115 in the FedEx Cup Fall standings, he's in need of a good week to climb up into the top 100 to keep his playing privileges so he won't lack for motivation and last week wasn't the first time he's performed well on paspalum.
Crowe also finished tied for 11th at the Corales Puntacana Championship two years ago and although he ended up withdrawing from this event on his only previous appearance back in 2024, he was inside the top 12 after the opening round.
Crowe finished only 33rd at the Bermuda Championship in his penultimate start but that was a messy tournament with strong winds, reduced to 54 holes.
Although that was on Bermuda greens, he also putted nicely there, ranking second for SG: Putting for the week, and prior to that he'd finished fourth in the Bank of Utah Championship, which is an event that I suspect may corelate nicely with this one in the fullness of time.
Like the World Wide Technology Championship, the Bank of Utah is effectively a putting contest with the first three winners of the event reaching 23, 22 and 26 under-par.
Just like the Bank of Utah Championship, this tournament is all about rolling in plenty of birdie putts and going as low as possible and Crowe looks very well equipped for the task.
As always, I'll be looking to trade either of the two picks in-running if their odds hit single figure prices on the Betfair Exchange and I'll be taking plenty of profit should they trade at odds-on at any point.
