Steyn City Championship 2022: Form stats for this week's DP World Tour event in South Africa

Steyn City makes its debut on the DP World Tour
George Coetzee: Pictured last week when he finished fourth

"Has (Bekker) made his way into the world’s top 140 for the first time thanks to some solid performances during the early months of 2022. He is a seven-time winner on South Africa’s Sunshine Tour."

It's a second straight week in the 'rainbow nation' where the players travel to Johannesburg for the Steyn City Championship. Words and stats by Andy Swales...

The DP World Tour makes the short 30-mile journey south to tee-up at this week's venue in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg.

The Steyn City Championship is a new co-sanctioned event and, for the second week in a row, a largely identical field will test their skills over another Jack Nicklaus-designed course.

Sand and water is a major feature of the officially titled The Club at Steyn City, which opened for business on April 1st, 2015.

The holes are laid out over gently rolling terrain, with a number of changes in elevation along the route.

The Club at Steyn City will be hosting a Sunshine Tour event for the second time.

In March 2018 it staged the 54-hole Steyn City Team Championship, which was included in the Tour's Order of Merit.

However, it was not recognised by the World Ranking, which only awards points for individual events.

The winners of this two-man team event were South African pros Hennie du Plessis and Jean Hugo.

The course is not heavily-laden with dense vegetation, while water comes into play on seven holes.

Five To Watch

Marcus Armitage: The Englishman has made a solid start to the calendar year without finding his way into the top five or six - yet. This week's field will be similar in strength to the Porsche European Open which the 34-year-old won last June.

Oliver Bekker: Has made his way into the world's top 140 for the first time thanks to some solid performances during the early months of 2022. The 37-year-old from Pretoria should feel at home this week. He is a seven-time winner on South Africa's Sunshine Tour.

Dean Burmester: Many fancied the big-hitting South African to contend last week but despite starting well the 32-year-old fell away in round three.

George Coetzee: A brace of top-10s on the DP World Tour during 2022, and was one stroke away from making it a four-man play-off on Sunday.

Richard Sterne: The former world No 29 is no longer the player he once was, but in a field lacking great quality - such as this week - is still capable of posting a high finish. He finished fifth at Pecanwood on Sunday.
