We're off to Mauritius this week for the final event on the DP World Tour's Opening Swing and the last event of the year - the Mauritius Open - and it's one of the weakest field's we've seen in 2025.

Last week's winner, Jayden Schaper, who was winning for the first time on the DP World Tour when he got off the mark in his homeland at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in Joburg, is the clear favourite at just 8/19.00.

My first selection is another South African in search of his first DP World Tour victory.

Mauritius Open bet #1- Christiaan Burke @ 130.0129/1

At 25, Christiaan Burke is only four months older than Schaper and, like his compatriot, Burke has been showing promise for a long time.

He hit an incredible 16-under-par round of 56 at the par-72 Potchefstroom CC layout back in 2021 when playing off +8 and he caught the eye in Joburg last week when he began the event with six straight birdies.

After his tied fourth last week, Burke arrives in Mauritius with current form figures reading 5-18-2-3-4-17-4. He finished fifth in this event 12 months ago at Mont Choisy, so he's a very straightforward pick at a triple-figure price given he's no bigger than 80/181.00 on the High Street.

Mauritius Open bet #2- Zander Lombard @ 200.0199/1

Given the weakness of the field, this looks like a great chance for some of the DP World Tour players who will only get a limited number of starts. I liked several players who have just qualified via the DP World Tour's Q School in Spain last month.

The experienced Eddie Pepperell, who finished ninth in this event last year having been tied for the lead with 18 to play, birdied the last four holes off the sixth and final round at the Infinitum Golf Club to regain his card. I considered back him.

As highlighted in the preview, links exponents shone here when La Réserve Golf Links was the host venue for the first time two years ago and Pepperell has a wealth of experience and some fine form around links layouts.

I also looked closely at Portugal's Daniel Rodrigues, who caught the eye Down Under a fortnight ago when he sat tied for the lead at the halfway stage of the Australian Open.

A 74 on Saturday bumped him out of contention and he eventually finished 12th but anyone who can shoot 64 around Royal Melbourne, as he did in round two, must have serious talent and the youngster looks like one to keep an eye on.

After much deliberation, I've decided to plump for the man who finished in front at Q-School, the 30-year-old South African, Zander Lombard.

Since finishing the week in Spain on an incredible 37-under-par - 13 shots better than the rest - Lombard has form figures in his homeland reading MC-7-62, so he hasn't been in sparkling form but I was happy to take a chance on him at 200.0199/1.

Lombard sat sixth and just two off the lead at the halfway stage of the Open Championship in 2018. A year earlier he lost a playoff to Alvaro Quiros in the now defunct Roco Forte Open at the Verdura Golf & Spa Resort in Sicily, an event in which links exponents would shine, so this venue may well suit him.

This is his first visit to Mauritius since he finished 26th in this event in 2019.

Mauritius is a popular holiday destination for South Africans and they have a decent record in this event.

The co-course designer, Louis Oosthuizen, won at this venue two years ago and Lombard is bidding to become the fourth South African winner in the event's ninth edition.
