Three picks in Scotland from Steve
Before we get stuck into the Scottish action a quick line on the PGA Tour event as I'm quite tempted to back Zach Bauchou in this week's PGA Tour event, the third edition of the Bank of Utah Championship.
He's got a similar profile to the first two winners of the event, and he won a low-scoring event on the Korn Ferry Tour a year ago.
His best performance in his first season on the PGA Tour was at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in May, an event that I feel could well correlate nicely with this one (see the preview), where he finished sixth, and he arrives in Utah after a couple of decent performances -14th in the Wyndham Championship and 24th in the Biltmore Championship.
I can see Bachou contending in Utah but given how many long-shots have won this week's DP World Tour event - the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship - I've picked out three outsiders there instead.
Alfred Dunhill Links Bet 1 - Back Casey Jarvis @ 120.0119/1
Playing in his first Open Championship a couple of weeks before his 23rd birthday, Casey Jarvis opened the event with a three-over-par 73 that saw him languishing in a tie for 106th.
But he ended the week in a tie for sixth.
Jarvis got off the mark on the DP World Tour with back-to-back victories in Kenya and South Africa in February and March and he traded at a low of just 1.774/5 on the Betfair Exchange to win for a third week in-a-row when finishing second at the Joburg Open.
The South African hasn't been at his best for a while now and his first four appearances in this event have produced figures reading 61-54-MC-147 but he clearly enjoys links golf if he can finish inside the top six in his first Open and I was happy to chance him at a triple-figure price.
Back Casey Jarvis
Alfred Dunhill Links Bet 2 - Back Dan Brown @ 140.0139/1
Having just announced that he's decided to pull the plug on his PGA Tour season due to health and injury issues, Dan Brown is clearly a risky play.
Sitting at 144th in the FedEx Cup standings, a good Fall Series could have seen him climb back into the top 100 places to secure a card for 2027 but given he has an exemption on the DP World Tour next year following last year's BMW International Open win, going home may well be the best decision.
He's just missed the British Masters, Irish Open, and the BMW PGA Championship due to persistent injuries but he's got a tee time at St Andrews on Thursday so hopefully it's a case of 'beware the injured golfer'.
On his last two starts Brown finished 18th in the Open Championship (second after round one) and 16th in the Nexo Championship so he's been in fair form.
In three previous appearances, he's yet to figure in this event but he loves links golf and having the decision to turn his back (at least temporarily) on his PGA Tour career may well free him up to play well this week.
He's a two-time winner on the DP World Tour but in addition to winning in Germany last year he also lost a playoff in Bahrain and a playoff in Spain.
Back Dan Brown
Alfred Dunhill Links Bet 3 - Back Richard Sterne @ 600.0599/1
Richard Sterne won his seventh DP World Tour event at the Soudal Open in May, 13 years after he won his sixth in his homeland at the Joburg Open.
Another Tour win for the 45-year-old South African had looked unlikely and after three straight missed cuts, an eighth title is unlikely this week too, but he's too big at odds of around 600/1601.00 given his outstanding record in this event.
Sterne finished sixth in his second appearance way back in 2003 and over a period of 11 years, his last seven visits have produced form figures that read 6-2-59-MC-MC-48-3.
Sterne has been dogged by injury over the last seven years, once missing 11 months in-a-row. He's had three wrist operations, a disc replacement and hip surgery but he's still managed to produce some high finishes here when seemingly out of form.
Sterne was tied for the lead with a round to go last year but with the tournament reduced to 54 holes, playing Carnoustie on the final day was always going to be a huge handicap and he did well to finish third.
