ODIs are a hit on Exchange ahead of World Cup
In the last 12 months, £4.5 billion has been matched on 50 over cricket, underlining the popularity of the shorter formats of the game ahead of the World Cup.
A total of £3.4bn was matched on One Day Internationals in the last year so the World Cup will be a huge event on the Exchange. England head to India as holders and second in the outright winner market behind the hosts.
The IPL has had an enormous impact on Betfair Exchange volumes in recent years. In the last 12 months, IPL betting has accounted for 25% of all cricket volume on the Exchange.
But there is still a large chunk of liquidity matched outside of the IPL. Here are some of the other events that make up a significant share of Exchange volume:
- 10% One Day Internationals
- 7% Twenty Big Bash
- 7% ICC World T20
- 7% International Twenty20 Matches
- 5% Pakistan Super League
To put those figures into context, at match level and the size of liquidity on offer, in the last 12 months there has been 2,605 matches, breaking that down by categories of matched volumes:
Matched volume percentages
- Over £1m: 49%
- Over £5m: 39%
- Over £10m: 30%
- Over £50m: 6%
- Over £100m: 2%
This level of liquidity is great news for cricket bettors ahead of the Cricket World Cup. The marquee event of the sport begins on October 5 when England meet New Zealand in Ahmedabad and continues throughout the month until the final in mid-November.

Betfair opens 100K new Australian racing markets
Betfair Australia have been ramping up their 'Exotics' markets on Australian racing on the Exchange. They are offered as 'Exacta' and 'Quinella' markets and are the equivalent of Forecast and Reverse Forecast markets in UK racing.
There are, however, slight differences in the way these markets are offered in Australian and UK racing:
- They offer both Exacta and Quinella markets on selected races.
- For horse racing only, due to large field sizes, they offer combinations of selections which cover the Top 5 selections (based on their Win market price at the time of loading).
- This is accompanied by an 'Any Other Result' selection which covers all other possible combinations of the winner and second place horse.
These markets will be offered across all Australian thoroughbred and greyhound meetings from 22 August 2023.
This will account for an additional 100,000 markets being offered every year, with the potential additions of both Harness racing and NZ racing in the future.
90 Minute Payout
The 2023/24 football season is under way and, as you may have noticed, matches are getting longer due to new directives to referees about adding on more time for stoppages.
That's why Betfair's launched the 90 Minute Offer on the Sportsbook. Since the season kicked off, Betfair have been settling match odds bets when the clock hits 90 irrespective of what happens in added time.
It has been so popular that Betfair are considering adding this additional offer to Exchange match odds. Watch this space.
Corporate account verification
Betfair allows an account to be set up in the name of a company to place bets on the Exchange.
This is not currently shown on the sign up page but the list of documentation and information that is required for the verification process can be found here.
