"If Cliff Lee produces his best tonight, Philadelphia will extend the series. He will be under enormous pressure from the Yankee hitters but the outcome of this game rests on his glove."
The New York Yankees can win the World Series on Monday night but Philadelphia will not go down easily, says Nick Shiambouros.
The New York Yankees are one game away from winning the World Series after beating the Philadelphia Phillies 7-4 in a dramatic finish on Sunday night. With the game tied at the top of the ninth and two men out disaster struck when Philadelphia closer Brad Lidge gave up a hit to Johnny Damon and then came apart at the seams.
Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada drove in three runs off Lidge and the Yankees held on for the victory.
This was a very close game but ultimately the Philies lost because Lidge could not close out the Yankees.
Tonight, Cliff Lee is on the hill for the Phillies and, with an astonishing ERA of just 0.54 in his last three starts, he has been in sensational form recently. If this left-hander produces his best tonight, Philadelphia will extend the series. Lee will be put under enormous pressure by the Yankee hitters but the outcome of this game rests on his glove.
The Yankees start A.J. Burnett who pitched well in Game 2.This right-handed pitcher had a very shaky start in that game and the Phillies will try to jump on him in the early going.
All in all this has been one of the finest World Series I have seen. Both teams are very closely matched but the pendulum has swung in the direction of New York. The Phillies face a huge task in trying to overcome a 3-1 deficit but they are a team that never gives up.
I think Philadelphia will extend the series to at least one more game and put a little pressure on New York.
