MLB Betting: Billion dollar boys starting to fire

Nick Shiambouros is liking the look of the New York Yankees and predicts pain for Tampa in the Big Apple...

There is a lot of important action taking place this Labor Day weekend as we enter the all important month of September.

On Sunday the Chicago Cubs visit the New York Mets in the final game of a three match series. The Cubs are clinging to a wild-card chance in the National League and they are 12 games behind St Louis in the Central division. The last time the Cubs won the World Series was in 1908 and this statistic has haunted this historic team ever since I can remember.

One of the shining stars in Chicago is rookie pitcher Randy Wells who starts on Sunday. This young man has a fantastic record of 10-7 with an ERA of just 2.9.Over the years Chicago has done very well in cultivating talent and Wells is no exception. I really like the Cubs for the win and make them my banker of the weekend. Once again the Mets are having another poor season and are going through a horrific run at the moment. Mike Pelfry is starting for New York with a 9-10 record. Like many players on the Mets' roster he may be looking for a job next year...

On Monday the Tampa Bay Rays are also in New York visiting the Yankees. These two teams are playing a double-header and the Rays will do well to split the two games. Tampa had a poor August with a record of 15-12 and as a consequence are fighting to make it to the playoffs.

On the other side of the coin the Yankees are on fire and are running away with the AL East. The Bronx bombers are really playing the kind of ball that could land them a place in the World Series this year. On the hill for New York in the first game on Monday is A.J.Buurnett with a record of 10-8 and a decent ERA of 4.29. Burnett has a good recent record against the Rays and I think he could last at least six innings for the home team.

The bad news for Tampa is that the Yankees have the finest bullpen in baseball if Burnett gets in to trouble. This New York team is one of the strongest I have seen in 20 years. They can bat all the way to the last man and appear to have no weaknesses.

The Yankees have a $208m per year wage bill which towers over the $68m the Rays' spend. Finally after some very expensive signings this season things have fallen in to place for them.
Money cant buy you love but it gets you one hell of a ball club.
